Waterville, Maine- The Mules gave the Panthers an incredible battle today, falling 4-5 to the top ten ranked team. Today was the closest the young team has ever been to taking down the Panthers, and Women's Tennis is excited for a rematch at the NESCAC tournament.
Doubles play was close, with the Panthers taking a 2-1 lead at the conclusion of play.
Sam Riordan and
Michaela Landry came up huge for the Mules, defeating top ranked opponents 8-3. Bella Suk and
Sydney Landau battled hard, falling 6-8.
Amelie Gal and
Ellie Gershaw also gave their opponents a run, dropping 6-8.
Singles play was even closer than doubles, with Riordan grabbing the first singles point for the team. In their fourth match up of their college careers, Riordan notched her first victory over her opponent, 6-4, 6-3.
Jade Finestone took down her opponent shortly after, winning a first set tiebreaker and dominating the second set for a score of 7-6, 6-0. Gershaw won the final match of the day against her opponent, 6-2, 6-2. Landau had a notable singles match, coming alive in the second set after losing the first in a tiebreaker- her final score was 6-7, 7-6, 3-6.
The Mules are back in action this Friday, location and opponent TBD for the first round of the NESCAC tournament.
