Amherst, Mass- Colby Women's Tennis 2024 season came to an end today with their 1-5 loss to the Middlebury Panthers.
Doubles play was competitive, with the team falling 0-3.
Sam Riordan and
Michaela Landry were defeated by their opponents 4-8, the same score as
Sydney Landau and Bella Suk.
Amelie Gal and
Ellie Gershaw were defeated 3-8 at the third doubles position.
The Mules pushed the Panthers hard in singles with 4 out of the 6 singles positions entering a third set. The most notable match was freshman
Jade Finestone finishing out her season with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at four singles. After being down 0-4, Riordan battled back to reach a score of 6-4, 4-6, 2-4 before the match was clinched. Gershaw and Suk both lost their first sets 6-7, both dominated in their second sets, and had just begun their third sets at the end of the match. Landau gave her opponent her all, falling 6-4, 3-6, 0-6.
All in all, the Mules had an amazing season as a young team, challenging teams in ways they never had before. Seniors Riordan and Landau graduate on May 26th, 2024, and have a few words about how special their experience was:
"For me, this team is everything. The way we compete, partnered with our close friendships, made this year the most special season. I will never forget the girls, coach, and I'm so sad to hang up the rackets… this has been the most rewarding experience of my life" -

"The girls came out and gave it everything they had. Each one fought not as individuals but as a team and that's all you can ask for. Super proud!" -
