Colby Tops Hamilton in NESCAC Quarterfinals

Waterville, Maine - Colby Women's Lacrosse Team advances to the NESCAC semifinals today following a nail-biting 13-11 win against the Continentals of Hamilton College.

The first half saw the Mules' near-total domination, scoring in the first minute and maintaining that lead for a 5-1 score heading into the second quarter. Colby and Hamilton matched each other goal for goal in the second quarter, securing a once again comfortable 8-4 lead for the Mules. The Continentals were determined to keep fighting, pushing back on the Mules and scoring the first goal of the second half, but it was not quite enough as Colby maintained their lead at 12-7 to round out that third quarter. Hamilton's defense picked up incredibly in the second half, only allowing a singular goal in by Colby, while their offense also picked up the pace scoring four times to close out the game. That final spurt would not be enough, however, and the Mules would maintain their lead to close out the game at 13-11.

In typical Colby fashion, this was a team effort with a number of stand-out players. This NESCAC victory would not have been possible without Julia Jardina's three goals and Ally Franz's whopping five goals and an assist for a total of six points. Ainsley Dion was a diverse contributor with a goal, a ground ball, and five draw controls. Sarah Hearns out-saved the Hamilton goalkeeper by nearly twice her saves with an impressive 10 throughout the game.

The Mules will next face off in the NESCAC semifinals, the time and place for which will be released soon.
