Middlebury, Vt. - The Colby Women's Lacrosse Team faced off against No. 1 seed Middlebury in the NESCAC Semifinals today, falling to the Panthers 19-6.
The Panthers came out swinging in the first quarter, scoring almost immediately, but Colby kept fighting. They kept Middlebury's lead down to only two points, wrapping up the quarter 6-4 for the Panthers. The first few minutes of the quarter were uneventful, but Middlebury hit their stride and built their lead to 12-5 to round out the half. The third quarter saw similar action, with a defense-heavy few minutes before Middlebury picked up the pace. Still, Colby managed to score one for themselves. The score at the end of the third quarter was 16-6. The last stretch of the game saw impressive defense by both the Mules and the Panthers. Colby's defense held Middlebury to only three goals, finishing the game with a score of 19-6.
Sarah Hearns was on fire, out-saving the Middlebury goalie 16 saves to six.
Julia Jardina scored twice and
Ally Franz scored once, also contributing an assist.
Gennie Littlejohn,
Tori Congdon,
Ally Franz, and
Julia Maimonis also each contributed a goal.
Kat Munter and
Ainsley Dion boasted seven and three draw controls respectively. Jardina also contributed five ground balls and caused one turnover.
