Waterville, Maine
The Colby Women's Swimming and Diving team had a dominating performance at the Maine Collegiate Invite Friday and Saturday. Teams from University of Maine-Orno, Bates, Bowdoin, Wheaton (MA), Maine Maritime, University of New Englend and Husson came to Waterville to compete in the 3 session meet. The Mules continued their impressive season and won the meet for the first time. They beat second place Divison 1, Maine Orno by 190 pts and 3rd place, NESCAC rival, Bowdoin by 490 pts. The team continued to embrace their philosophy of taking every opportunity both in the pool and on the boards. 38 Colby all-time top 10 swims were recorded as well as 5 school records, 5 first year Records and 3 NCAA Championship Consideration times. On the boards
Avery Rappaport made her regional qualifying scores on both the 1 m and 3 m.
From the first event to the last event it the Mules came out on fire. Two of the school records set were done in the first (200 Free) and last relays (400 Free). Both also achieved the NCAA Championship Consideration time and the time done in the 200 Free was a time that did qualify for the NCAA Division 3 Championship meet last year. The teams were comprised of
Gabriella Landau,
Eliza Marco,
Lily Moy and
Zoe Buzzelli. Currently the 200 is ranked tenth in Division 3 and the 400 is ranked 14th. In addition they also set the meet record in the 200 Free Relay and won the 200 Medley Relay as well. The other NCAA consideration time was achieved by sophomore
Lexi Asch in the 200 Butterfly. She broke her own school record by over a second and is currently ranked 18th in Division 3.
First year Marco had an outstanding meet and won  the 50 and 100 Freestyle, the 50 breaststroke and the 100 IM. In all 4 events she set the first year records for Colby and the 50 Breaststroke and 100 IM were also the fastest swims ever in Colby women's swimming history. Other first year records were set by
Caitlin Lacey in the 100 Butterfly and
Abby Bauman in the 400 IM.
The women came together as one and depth was a major factor in the dominating performance. Â The combination of winning 8 events and having at least 3 in the top 8 in 9 events lead to a total team victory. In the 50 Backstroke and 100 Freestyle 5 of the top 8 were Colby swimmers. Other event winners were Landau in the 50 back and Lacey in the 100 Butterfly.
The Mules will head to Key largo for Winter training on December 17th and will be back in action on January 11th when Middlebury comes to Waterville.
