Waterville, Maine. - Colby faced off today against the Polar Bears of Bowdoin, falling to the Polar Bears 61 to 52.
Colby started off a little slow, struggling to keep pace with Bowdoin and starting at a deficit of 15-4. Of course, the Mules would not be kept down for long, and they were able to score over triple their points in the second quarter relative to the first for a score of 36-17 at the half. Leaving the first half behind them, Colby rallied. Bowdoin still managed to score 18 additional points in the third quarter, while Colby surged forward with 15 of their own for a score of 54-32. Yet, with a gap still to close, Colby gave their all in the fourth quarter to limit the Polar Bears' lead. Bowdoin was no match for the Mules' fourth-quarter defense, only able to score seven points to the Mules' 20. Although Colby's showing in that fourth quarter was impressive, it wasn't enough to close the Polar Bear's lead entirely. Despite their great showing, Bowdoin beat Colby with a final score of 61-52.
Colby's offensive comeback in the fourth quarter was helped massively by
Lydia Mordarski, with 21 points, four rebounds, and an assist.
Talia Thompson was a solid defensive force with two steals and two blocks.
Kate Olenik had an incredibly well-rounded game with 10 points, five rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
The Mules' next match is on the road against Lake Forest College in Daytona Beach, Fla. on Sunday, December 29, at 11 am.
