Lexington, Ky. - A week after announcing their All-Region selections, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released their selections for Division III All-American. All-Region First Team selections
Brady Moseley,
LJ Grant, and
Cyanne Jones each found themselves on one of the national lists with Moseley earning Third Team selection, while Grant and Jones were recognized with Honorable Mention. The trio marks Colby's first All-American selections since Cait Cleaver '06 (Third Team) and Kaitlin Adams '06 (Honorable Mention) were announced in 2005.
Two other NESCAC athletes join Moseley on the Third Team, and six join Grant and Jones as Honorable Mention selections.
"The players are working harder than they ever have before and it is evident with this team's success," said head coach
Lindsay Johnson. Johnson was recently recognized as the AVCA Region I Coach of the Year, and her coaching staff was named Coaching Staff of the Year by the NESCAC. "To have our players recognized in the conference, region and now at the All-American level is something we have been striving for and what an amazing honor to achieve. This is only the start of a new generation of Colby Volleyball All-Americans!"
In just her second year, Moseley pushed over 500 kills and 500 digs for her career. She repeated on the All-NESCAC team and earned All-Region and All American distinctions for the first time. Grant experienced a resurgent year as a junior for the Mules, earning her first conference and region honors and being selected to the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament Team for her efforts in Colby's first and second round matches last week. Jones followed up her All-NESCAC honors as a first-year by being named the Freshman of the Year for Region I.
The Mules finished the regular season undefeated in conference play and hosted the NESCAC tournament in early November. They fell to Middlebury in five sets (16-14) in the championship match but earned an at-large bid for the NCAA Division III tournament, the programs second appearance on the national stage. Colby rose as high as #7 in the NCAA Power Index, and defeated UMass Dartmouth in the tournament's first round before falling to a powerful La Verne team in the second round. La Verne then delivered #3 MIT just its second loss of the season to advance to the Elite-8.
Johnson is thrilled to have Colby back in the national conversation. "Transforming this program has been an incredible ride. This group has bought into the vision we have for Colby Volleyball and have now made it their own. To see our program reach new heights has been very fulfilling, but what I have appreciated the most as a coach is the work ethic that has been established by this team."
Colby ended the season with a 25-4 record, displaying amazing trajectory from 10-12 in 2021, 14-9 in 2022, and 17-8 in 2023. Without a senior on this year's roster, the program is poised to continue its winning ways in 2025.
