WORCESTER, Mass. - The Colby Women's Crew team had two boats competing in the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta on Saturday. It was a day that started cloudy, but after a brief sprinkle of rain cleared up to near ideal race conditions.

Both crews were competing in the Collegiate Women's eight event. The Colby A crew of Eunice Yi '28; Sawyer Rogers '28; Lele Gibbs '28; Zoey Honsel '28; Isabel Grimes '25; Eliza Nilson '26; Alex Glotzbach '27; Becca Barnard '28; and Kirsten Ishii '25 finished the 4,000m race in eighth place overall with a time of 16:41 and only about ten seconds back of the Smith A crew who competed at Nationals last spring which has the coaching staff very excited. Head coach Stew Stokes had this to say on their first eight, "we are very excited to see this crew show up today and compete. After a challenging past year of rebuilding, we are finally making our way back to hopefully continue to make some noise at our other fall races. We've got a ways to go with finding speed, and that excites us."

It was the very first race for a portion of the athletes on the Colby B crew rowed by Shayna Leinberger '26; Isa Jurado '27; Zoe Dodge '26; Erica O'Donnell '27; Ainsley Bonang '25; Isha Krishnamurthy '27; Kate Ward '28; and Abby Stathis '27. They finished in 24th place with a time of 18:48. From Stokes's perspective it was a "great very first race for a good portion of this boat. We are so happy we get to work with two eights now, and are looking forward to growing this group of rowers as we continue on with fall racing." 

The Colby Crew team leaves the Snake Regatta in a good spot with good early results, but also still room to improve which has excitement brewing for what's on the horizon.

Their next competition will be in two weeks at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Cambridge, Mass. from Saturday, Oct. 19th - Sunday, Oct. 20th.
