Waterville, Maine – The Colby College Volleyball team is set to kick off the 2023 season Wednesday in Standish against Saint Joseph's College. The Mules have won the last six contests against the Monks, including three in straight sets.
Heading into the year, third-year head coach
Lindsay Johnson has a lot to look forward to. "To finish, to start strong, to close out, to win… the hustle, drive and passion that this program has is very visible with this group," said Johnson. "They are working incredibly hard and their effort is never a question. Now it is time for us to fine tune a few fundamentals, skill sets and strengthen our volleyball IQ to prepare us for a successful season ahead."
Looking to build off a 2022 campaign that saw the Mules finish 14-9 and qualify for the NESCAC tournament for the first time since 2015, Colby brings a mixture of high-performance returners with an incredibly talented first-year class.
LJ Grant '26,
Emma Davis '26, and
Hannah Wyllie '24 led the team a season ago in kills with 215, 206, and 194 respectively. Sophomore
Sydney Sick was the team-leader in assists, earning Colby's first NESCAC Player of the Week award since Kim Donaldson '16 in 2015.
"Our schedule is filled with stronger teams than last season," continued Johnson. "We open with a big tournament and strong teams, and our biggest goal for our pre-season period was to get this group to COMPETE. We are learning how to fight through the good and the bad. I'm excited to see what our Mules can do this season!"
Wednesday's game is slated for 7:00pm. Check the
