Waterville, Maine — The Mules overpower the University of Hartford in the second half of the game, securing a 2-1 win and improving their season record to 2-3.
Colby Women's Soccer came back from a couple of close losses with a battle to win against the Hartford Hawks. The first half started with a strong offensive attack with a header shot by Madison Genser that was saved by Hartford's goalkeeper. Pepper Joseph was quick to attempt another shot on goal about 2 minutes later that was also saved by Hartford's Sejal Johnson. Shortly after a substitution made by the Hawks, they scored their first goal in the 35th minute of the game, and the Mules fell to 1-0 after the first half.
The Mules found their momentum in the second half with a shot out of the gate by Sophie DiGrande. While DiGrande's attempt in the 51st minute was saved by Hartford's goalkeeper, in the last 5 minutes of the game, she found a hole in the bottom right corner of the net to score her first goal of the season. DiGrande tied it up with the Hawks, making it 1-1. With less than 5 minutes left, the Mules weren't done yet. Colby's Fati Salifu scored the game-winning goal and her first of the season at 88:59 to put the Mules ahead 2-1. Colby led in shots on goal throughout the game and fought until the last minute to have these attempts fall into place.
Colby will be on the road this weekend to Williamstown, MA for a game against Williams College at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 23.
