Middletown, CT - The 20th ranked Colby Men's Tennis Team overcame 16th ranked Wesleyan in a 6-3 thriller on Sunday, April 2nd.
The Mules took 2 out of 3 doubles matches, giving them a 2-1 lead heading into the singles. At line 3, junior captain Joey Barrett and freshman Aidan Kwong won 8-5. On court 2, the duo of junior Sam Henry and James Bogdanovic fell 8-7. At line 1, senior captain Jan Wenger and sophomore Jake Cohen overcame opponents 8-6 to give the Mules the advantage.
In the singles, senior Ben Powis quickly added another point for the Mules on court 4, defeating his opponent 6-2, 6-2. Joey Barrett put the Mules within a point from the clinch, as he outlasted J.T Bilski of Wesleyan 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 at line 1.
Moments later, freshman Aidan Kwong was defeated in 3 sets by opponent 6-7, 6-3, 6-1 at line 6 to make the score 4-2 for the mules. After a back and forth battle, Sam Henry clinched the match for the Mules, defeating his opponent 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 at line 5.Â
On court 3, Wenger bounced back after a first set defeat 0-6, 6-4, 10-1. At line 2, Jake Cohen battled until the end, but ultimately lost 6-2, 3-6, 10-8.
The Mules continue NESCAC play on Thursday, April 6th against Bates.
