Waterville, Maine - The Colby Men's Tennis team improved to 4-0 in NESCAC play with an 8-1 over 35th ranked NESCAC rival Bates.
The Mules found themselves up two matches to one following the doubles. At line one, senior captain Jan Wenger and sophomore Jake Cohen won 8-5. On court three, junior captain Joey Barrett and first-year Aidan Kwong won 8-6. On court two junior Sam Henry and sophomore James Bogdanovic fell 8-6.
The Mules completely dominated in the singles, sweeping the Bobcats on all six courts. Wenger gave Colby the first singles point, cruising past Leo Kupferman of Bates 6-0, 6-4 at line three. At line six, Kwong defeated Matthew Danielson 6-4, 6-2 to give the Mules a 4-1 lead. Moments later Henry took down Teddy Koide 6-3, 6-4 at line five to give the Mules the clinch.
The work was not done yet for Colby. Cohen outlasted his opponent 6-1, 7-5 at line 2 and senior Ben Powis won the first set 7-6(5) and was up 3-0 in the second set before his opponent retired from injury. Finally, on court 1, Barrett was leading Cam Kania of Bates 6-4, 5-5 before he withdrew from injury as well.
The Mules look to extend their NESCAC winning streak against Tufts on Saturday, April 8th.
