Waterville, MAINE- Colby returned to the field tonight to face in-state rival St. Josephs in an attempt to gather their first win of the 2023 season. The Mules took advantage of their talent and dominated from the get-go, taking a 16-1 first-half lead. In the second half everyone got playing time as Colby cleared the bench yet continued to score, with the game ending 26-6. The win takes the Mules to 1-1 and drops the Monks to 0-5.
To start the game Colby got up to a six to nothing lead within the first five minutes.
Jake Surette and
Max Solmssen led the Mules scoring three goals a piece. They also received two goals from
Jack Goller and
Nick Hassan as
Nick Sokolosky, Evan Devita,
Bennett Goller, and
Jackson Alvord all tallied their first goals of the season. Colby benefited from being perfect on the clear and outshooting the Monks 40-4.
The second half saw the Mules continue to dominate as they outscored the Monks 10-5 while outshooting them 27-18.
Ben Reynolds led the scoring with three goals; seven others scored their first goals of the season. Other highlights from the game include
Justin Turley going 20-23 on face-offs. Turley also led the team with 12 ground balls, while
Brooks Rayment and
Erik Niit each had five a piece.
The Mules will return to the field on March 11th against Williams at 1 pm.
