Lake Placid, N.Y. - The Colby Alpine and Nordic Ski teams are headed off to Lake Placid, New York tomorrow to race in the final events of the season. After preparing and racing all winter, six Mules will represent Colby as the nations best at the NCAA Championships.
For Nordic,
Gretta Scholz,
Jack Young, and
Zach Nemeth will compete at Mt. Van Hoevenberg. Scholz has had a great junior year ranking 14th overall in freestyle including a seventh and 11th place finish at the Bates Carnival. As for classic events, Scholz grabbed a ninth place finish at the Saint Michael's carnival and 12th at the UNH Carnival. Young in only his sophomore year has three top-10 finishes on the year in the freestyle good for 14th overall. In the classical events, Young posted a 12th place finish at UNH and 13th place finish at Williams. Nemeth in his junior year wraps up the field for Nordic, totaling four top-20 finishes in the freestyle. In the classical events, Nemeth leads the way with impressive third, forth, and seventh place finishes for an overall seventh place ranking.
On the side of Alpine,
Lydia Riddell,
Ella Spear, and
Chauncey Morgan will compete at Whiteface Mountain. Riddell has had an outstanding sophomore year taking the sixth spot overall in the giant slalom, after totaling four top-five finishes and a seventh place finish throughout the season. In the slalom, Riddell snatched a 13th place finish at the UNH Carnival. Senior Spear ranks tenth overall in the giant slalom after grabbing four top-10 placements during the season, including a podium spot at the Williams Carnival. As for slalom, Spear managed a 12th place finish at the Bates Carnival. Lastly, Morgan in his senior year earned the 14th overall spot in the giant slalom including a fourth place finish at the Bates Carnival. In the regular slalom, Morgan placed 11th at the Harvard Carnival.
