Middletown, Conn.- The Colby College Mules visited Wesleyan today in the first of three games they will play over spring break. Colby entered the day looking to double up on last seasons victory over a ranked Wesleyan team. Despite running even with the Cardinals in the second half, a hot start by the hosts outpaced the Mules and guided the Cardinals to a 21-12 win. The loss drops Colby to 1-3 and the Cardinals to 4-1.
The first quarter saw the Mules get two quick goals from
Henry Popko and
Nick Hassan before the Cardinals went on a 6-1 run to end the quarter. The second quarter saw two more goals from
Jack Goller and
Evan DeVita.
Matt Suffredini kept them fighting, with nine of his fourteen saves coming in the first half.
The second half saw Colby score eight times as they went down the bench to give everyone experience. The Mules were led in the second half, scoring with two more from Goller and
Doug McCarthy. Colby also received contributions from Popko, DeVita,
Ryan Darby, and
Cormac O'Neill.
Davis Strabley led the Mules with five groundballs, while
Justin Turley had another four.
Colby continues their road trip when they take on Widener University on March 22nd at 4:00 pm.
