Waterville, ME - The Colby Women's Tennis Team defeated Brandeis on Sunday, March 12th by a score of 8-1.
The women found themselves up 2-1 after doubles, with wins coming on courts 1 and 2. Junior captains Sam Riordan and Sydney Landau defeated Brandeis opponents 8-6 at line 1 and freshmen Bella Suk and Maddie Omicioli took down Brandeis's 2nd team 8-2.
The momentum continued in favor of the Mules in the singles. Riordan cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 victory at line 1 with freshman Ellie Gershaw taking down her opponent shortly after 6-0,6-1 at line 4. Omicioli tallied the clinching point for the Mules on court 3, overcoming Phoebe Tamaoki of Brandeis 6-1, 6-3.
Although the match was clinched, the Mules continued to battle in the singles. Landau won another three set battle on court 2, with a final score of 6-3, 4-6, 10-4. Suk added another point for the Mules, with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the 5 spot. Freshman Amelie Gal also won at 6th singles, defeating her opponent 4-6, 6-2 ret.
The Mules are 2-2 on the season and look to continue their winning streak on spring break in San Antonio.
