Women's Ice Hockey Skates to Victory over UNE

Biddeford, Maine - The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team traveled to the University of New England to take on the Nor'easters in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday evening. The Mules were victorious, improving their overall record to 4-1-0.

The Mules came out strong in the first period with 18 shots on goal and two power play opportunities, but could not find the back of the net. The Nor'easters were able to score just seven minutes into the game to give themselves a 1-0 lead, which they held through the end of the period. Early in the second period Breanna Studley skated the puck down the ice from behind Colby's defensive net, sending a centering pass to Meg Rittenhouse who scored to tie the game at 1. Just five minutes later Courtney Schumacher put the Mules ahead, scoring her first of the season. The Mules earned a power play in the middle of the period which resulted in a top-shelf backhand goal from Beth Sinson. A strong performance in goal by Paige Bolyard allowed the Mules to sustain their lead throughout the third period, leading them to a 3-1 win over the Nor'easters and earning her first win of the season.

Colby will travel to Castelton, Vermont this weekend to play two games as they participate in the Castleton Invitational.
