Rutland, Vt. - The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team cruised to a 4-1 win against the Bears of SUNY Potsdam in the opening round of the Castleton Invitational. The Mules improve to 5-1-0 on the season while Potsdam drops to 4-6-0.
After a scoreless opening period,
Breanna Studley put Colby in front at the 15-minute mark of the second period, assisted by
Beth Sinson and
Megan Martodam. With both goalies playing stellar early on (
Paige Bolyard - Colby, Ellie Zurfluh - Potsdam), the third period saw both teams capitalize on their scoring chances.
Meg Rittenhouse scored just minutes into the period followed by Sinson with a goal of her own halfway through the frame. The Bears were able to steal one back to make the score 3-1, but Rittenhouse made good once more with two minutes to play. The 2023 All-American now has six goals on the season to go along with nine points, leading the NESCAC in both categories.
Anna Staton tallied three assists on the night.
Colby is back in action Saturday to face the host Castleton Spartans, winners over first round opponent Rivier by a score of 5-0.
