Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men's Ice Hockey Skates to Thrilling Tie with Polar Bears

Waterville, Maine - The Colby Men's Ice Hockey Team evened the match at three halfway through the third period to tie archrival Bowdoin College Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd.  The Mules have now beaten or tied Bowdoin in 15 of the last 16 contests (13-1-2 over that stretch).  Colby moves to 2-1-2 on the season while Bowdoin earns their first tie of the year (third overtime game) at 3-1-1.

Colby started the scoring in the 12th minute of the first frame when Reese Farrell scored his first collegiate goal off assists by Ryan Doolin and Jake MacDonald.  Colby goaltender Andy Beran was spectacular in net, turning away 20 shots in the first period and tallying a career-high 47 saves across the 65 minute match.

The second period was scoreless but the third brought plenty of excitement.  Colby increased its lead to two goals early in the third period when Matthew MacDonald scored his first collegiate goal, assisted by Tyler Crist.  Bowdoin erased the deficit within a matter of minutes as the Polar Bears tallied two goals within 20 seconds, and leaped in front with 13 minutes to play with their third goal of the period. A trio of seniors lit up the O'Niel | O'Donnell Forum for the Mules when Jack Sullivan tallied the game-tying score with less than eight minutes to play, assisted by Henry Molson and John McElaney.  Both units skated through the three-on-three extra frame scoreless to split the points in the NESCAC standings.

Colby is back in action next weekend with their first conference games on the road.  The Mules visit the Conn. College Camels Friday and the Tufts Jumbos Saturday.
