Last Minute Goal Earns Colby a Win Against #17 Hamilton

Waterville, Maine — To end the weekend, Colby's first-year Madison Genser scores a goal in the last two minutes of the game to secure a 3-2 win over 17th-ranked Hamilton College, who was previously undefeated before this weekend.

Going into this weekend, Hamilton College was ranked 17th nationally and undefeated. After their trip to Maine, they left with two losses (lost Saturday to Bates 2-0). One of the losses was due to Colby's persistent offensive efforts. In total, Colby tallied 20 shots with Sophie DiGrande recording eight of those, and collectively, Colby had eight shots on goal. Colby's Mia Cromwell was the first to test Hamilton's defense with a shot on their net in the 3rd minute of the game. Soon after this attempt, Hamilton scored the first goal of the game, making the score 1-0. Abigail Jarvi made a bid for two goals in response but was blocked and just wide of the net. It wasn't until the 39th minute of the game when another goal was put on the board, this time, by Colby's Samantha DeWitt. She was assisted by Madison Genser. MK Marshall claimed two of Hamilton's shots on goal in the first half.

First-year Abigail Jarvi's goal attempts throughout the game paid off in the second half when she scored Colby's second goal of the game and Jarvi's first goal of her collegiate career, putting them ahead 2-1. Chasing down a pass from Mia Cromwell, Jarvi put it in the net off the left post. Despite the lead, Hamilton tied it up in the 71st minute, making it a 2-2 game going into the last 20 minutes. In the final minutes, Colby received a break when Hamilton was called for a handball. First-year Madison Genser capitalized on this opportunity and scored the winning goal, the first of her collegiate career.

With an exciting end to today's game and advancing Colby's record to 3-5-2, yet again, Colby's numerous offensive attempts and consistent goalkeeping aren't going unnoticed by the NESCAC.

For their next game, Colby will be headed to their intra-city rival, Thomas College, on Wednesday, October 11 at 7:00 p.m.
