Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Mules Dominate Thomas to Begin a Winning Streak

Waterville, Maine — For this year's intra-city rivalry game against Thomas College, the Mules overpowered the Terriers to score six goals in the first half and continue scoring until the last minute, earning an 8-1 win. The Mules advance their record to 4-5-2, winning their past two games.

Throughout the game, we saw multiple different faces on the field for the Mules, demonstrating the depth Women's Soccer holds on their roster. Starting in goal was Emily McMaster, making her second appearance of the season, and Maxine Jamison, who entered in the second half, making her first season appearance.

Although Colby was the one to kick off, it didn't take much time before they found the back of Thomas' net. At 1:38, Sophie DiGrande scored Colby's first goal of the game in the low left corner. DiGrande continued pressuring Thomas' defense with another shot in the following minutes. Thomas found their only opportunity to score in the 4th minute of the game, tying it up 1-1. There wasn't much time before Colby's Abigail Jarvi made the Mule's second goal at 10:19, putting the Mules ahead 2-1. DiGrande's consistency with attempts at the net fell into place once again in the 17th minute. DiGrande found an opening in the low right corner and was assisted by Pepper Joseph, advancing Colby to a 3-1 lead. In the middle of the first half, multiple substitutions were made from Colby's side, one of those being for Jadyn Liebman. Liebman entered the game at 31:03 and scored about 30 seconds later, clocking her first goal of the season and collegiate career. She was assisted by Avery Barton. Then, only about 30 seconds after that, Liebman was fed the ball by Avery Barton again and scored Colby's fifth goal of the game. Barton not only made her mark on the field by assisting in two goals, but she also tallied one on the board for the Mules, scoring in the 41st minute and widening the lead to 6-1. Barton was assisted by Regan Miller. The Mules ended the first half with 15 shots on goal.

Going into the second half, the Mules had secured a significant lead, and despite Thomas' attempts to come back, the Mules weren't done. In the 70th minute, Kaleigh Quinn received a pass from Charlotte Johnson and found a gap in the low center of the net, making her first goal of the season. Colby displayed their unceasing effort, challenging Thomas up until the last minute of the game when Kaleigh Quinn scored her second goal, causing the Mules to finish with an 8-1 lead.

The Mules will hit the road this weekend to head down to New London, Connecticut. They will face Connecticut College on Saturday, October 14th at 11:30 a.m.
