Waterville, Maine - This afternoon, Colby College Field Hockey fell to a strong Middlebury team who showed why they are the number one seed in the nation. Although both teams were tied going into half, Middlebury pulled away to win 5-1 taking the Mules' record to 3-7 while Middlebury stayed undefeated.
Although there were no goals in the first quarter, goalie
Emily Loeb surely had her hands full as she faced six shots over the first fifteen minutes. The Colby defense remained busy into the second quarter as an eventual shot found its way in to make it 1-0 Middlebury. But the Mules responded three minutes later as
Charlotte Epker assisted
Erin Quirk for Colby's equalizer. Colby faced another 9 shots in the second half but took the game level into the break.
The second half proved fatal for the Mules as Middlebury found their momentum. Another nine shots in the quarter yielded three goals for the Panthers, taking the game quickly out of reach for Colby. The final quarter brought three shots from the Mules as
Casey Winslow and
Molly Mitchell each had their go at the Middlebury net, but in the end, the Panthers got past Loeb again to end the game 5-1.
Colby is in action again tomorrow as they host Hamilton at the Bill Alfond Field at 12pm.
