Colby Rises to Second in NESCAC Ranking After Hamilton Win

Waterville, Maine - In a thrilling four-set during a special Dig Pink match, the Colby College Volleyball team wrapped up the weekend with another impressive victory against Hamilton (25-19, 17-25, 26-24, 25-23). This sweep extends the Mules' winning streak to six, propelling them to second place in the New England Small College Athletic Conference with a record of 6-2 in conference and 13-5 overall. The loss for Hamilton brings their record down to 4-4 and 8-7. 

Colby hit .140 for the match, compiling 59 kills with a total of 186 attempts. The Mules totaled 10 blocks and five service aces while holding the Continentals to .101 hitting with 42 kills on 168 attempts.

The game commenced with a powerful kill from Sarah Friedrichs, rapidly setting the tone for the matchup. While Colby maintained an early lead, the back-and-forth between the two teams became evident. With a score equalizing at 12, the Mules surged ahead, extending their lead to 19-13, prompting Hamilton to call a timeout. Despite Hamilton's close attempt to regain the lead, Colby persevered and secured the first set 25-19. In the second set, Hamilton took an early 4-0 lead, which the Mules struggled to overcome throughout the set. This allowed Hamilton to claim the second set with a score of 17-25. The third set witnessed a remarkable comeback by the Mules, who took the lead at 7-3. Although the lead shifted to 10-10, with Hamilton attempting a comeback to reach 15-12, Colby made a strong push, equalized, and advanced to 18-16. The teams engaged in a one-point exchange to 24-24, extending the game by two points, but the Mules ultimately sealed the set. Finally, the last set began with Colby taking a 10-5 lead. Although Hamilton equalized at 15 and briefly took the lead, the Mules rebounded and concluded the closely contested match with a score of 25-23.

Some standout performers included Brady Moseley, who led the way with an impressive 22 kills, closely followed by LJ Grant with 12 and Friedrichs with nine. From the service line, Gabby Grujic made her mark with three aces, while Alli McKenney contributed two. Defensively, Sydney Bopp and Hannah Wyllie showcased their skills with four crucial blocks, while Friedrichs followed with three. The assist game was orchestrated by Gabby Grujic with 25 assists, closely supported by Allison Rodriguez's 22. Behind the 10-foot line, Reanna Yadao excelled with 26 digs, and Alli McKenney and Rodriguez were solid contributors with 17 and 15 digs, respectively. This well-rounded team effort demonstrated the depth and strength of the Colby College Mules. 

Volleyball will travel intrastate to Castine on Tuesday for a non-conference match against Maine Maritime Academy, aiming to further extend their winning streak.
