Box Score Middletown, CT - The Colby College Women's Tennis Team fell in the first round of the NESCAC Playoff Tournament to the Middlbury Panthers by a score of 5-0. It was the first NESCAC Playoff Tournament for the Mules in recent memory and with a fabulous spring season, the Mules knew they had to continue that magic against the Panthers, a team they lost to 8-1 the previous weekend.
The Mules did not go down without a fight though, as the 2nd doubles team of
Sam Riordan and
Sydney Landau had a back and forth battle, ultimately falling 8-7(5). Middlebury took the other two doubles points in convincing fashion to go up 3-0 after doubles.
In the singles, the Panthers took down
Caroline Kittle at #5 singles and
Lindsey Hernandez at #4 singles to get the clinch. All other matches were stoppped, as when a team gets the clinch, other matches stop. Riordan was in a high quality affair, falling in a close first set 5-7 at the time when matches were paused.
The Mules have concluded their spring season play. Seniors
Carly Levitz,
Katharine Dougherty,
Lindsey Hernandez,
Emilia Callery and
Olivia Scordo conclude their amazing collegiate careers, helping the Mules reach their best rankings and season records ever. In addition to giving the Mules their first playoff birth in recent memory, Levitz was an All-American player in the 2021 season. Dougherty finishes a stellar spring singles season as well.
