Season Opening Win Against Tufts Suggests a Successful Season Ahead

Waterville, Maine - The Mules open the season on a sunny Saturday playing top-ranked Tufts University.  The Mules fought hard, kept the Jumbos to only four goals, and came out on top pulling away in the fourth quarter.

In the first half, Colby out shot Tufts 17-11 so that the score going into halftime was 6-2.  The Mules cleaned up in ground balls with 11 in the first half.  Their ability to maintain possession and cause turnovers is what produced a win for the Mules.  The goals were important, but for a defensive unit to keep a team to under 5 goals is extremely impressive and certainly a group we should watch this season.

The second half was a bit more controlled by Tufts, the third quarter only produced two shots for the Mules and at one point the Jumbos came within two goals of their opponent.  With the score 6-4 in favor of the Mules and enough time left to close the gap it was looking like the Jumbos were still in it.  The Colby attack answered with three more goals, two from Annie Eddy.  With nine goals today, the Mules showed an attack with depth.  They had four goal scorers and two more with assists.  Eddy made her mark today with four goals, first year Julia Jardina had three, sophomore Ally Franz and senior Grace Toner had one apiece.

The Mules don't have another NESCAC game until Williams College comes for a visit next Saturday.  In the meantime, they will invite Roger Williams University for a mid-week out of conference game on Wednesday March 9th at 4pm.
