Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Ice Hockey Celebrate Six Seniors in Last Regular Season Game

Waterville, Maine - Colby returns to the rink to challenge Amherst for the final game in the regular season and to celebrate the many seniors who have contributed to Colby Women's Hockey over the last four years.

Only nine seconds into the first period, Amherst tucked the puck behind senior keeper Nina Prunster.  However, not even a minute later Meg Rittenhouse scored on a breakaway from the left side.  Not allowing Colby any momentum, Amherst turned around and scored again at 1:45 into the period.  Despite the quick start, neither team would score again until the third period.  Prunster had eight saves to start the game and keep Colby within reach of a win on senior night.

Colby was not without opportunity in the second period.  The first three minutes of the period consisted of shot after shot against Amherst.  Amherst outshot Colby 13-9, yet still Colby was able to maintain clear possession with multiple opportunities to score.

Sunday was the last day of regular season.  Colby has secured the number two position in the NESCAC, despite their loss to Amherst.  Not only was Sunday the last day of regular season, it was also the game in which the Mules celebrated the six seniors that have set a standard for the Women's Hockey program at Colby that will carry on for years to come (pictured left).  Captains Lexi Cafiero and Sadie Kuhn have led the team through the first normal season for the underclassman.  Nina Prunster has been a rock in goal for the Mules, making 359 saves throughout the 2021-2022 season.  Colleen Donoghue, Elizabeth Brashich, and Emily Van der Veen have contributed to the culture and success of the Colby Women's Hockey team.  McKinley Karpa, who started in the class of 2022, played her last game with her classmates as she will be returning for another year of competition due to COVID.  The Mules will play next week in the quarterfinal game.
