Castleton, VT- The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey Team faced off against the Castleton University Spartans in the championship game of the Castleton Tournament. The Mules routed the Spartans 4-1 to become champions. Colby remains undefeated now at 8-0-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the NESCAC conference. This game marks Colby's final non-conference game of the season.
In the first period with only 5:43 left
McKinley Karpa scored the first goal of the game off an assist by
Meg Rittenhouse. The assist by
Meg Rittenhouse continues her streak of having at least one point in every game this season. After the Spartans evened it 1-1 in the last minute of the first period,
Tate Senden put Colby back up one with a goal only twenty seconds into the second period off an assist by
McKinley Karpa. Junior
Mattie Tremper scored her first goal of the season in the third period off an assist by
Bri Michaud-Nolan. Only fifty-four seconds later
Breanna Studley put the puck in off an assist by fellow freshman
Courtney Schumacher to put the game away. Goalkeeper
Paige Bolyard totaled thirteen saves with eight of those alone in the first period. The Mules once again gained the advantage in faceoffs besting the Spartans 27-17 with
Jillian Mazzocca leading the way with nine faceoff wins and
Audrey Shirer winning all of her faceoffs.
On January 6th Colby College Women's Ice Hockey with travel to Clinton, NY to play against the Hamilton College Continentals.
