Waterville, Maine - The Colby Women's Soccer Team closed their non-conference season schedule with a game against the University of Maine Fort Kent. The Mules flexed their muscles in a rout over the Bengals to finish 5-0 in non-conference play. The game finished 2-0 although the Mules had plenty of chances that could have led to a much bigger margin of victory.
It did not take long for the Mules to get going when
Kaleigh Quinn crossed the ball into the box from the right wing where it was controlled by
Sophie Webb and rocketted into the back of the net. This was Webbs second goal of the season and Quinns first assist.
The Mules had plenty of chances to extend their lead but some tough breaks including two shots off the post kept the score at 1-0. That said, Colby dominated keeping the ball well within the UMFK half. They allowed just one shot on goal throughout the whole game and continued their strong defensive play seen throughout the season.
Colby's efforts were rewarded in the 85th minute when
Kerrie Verbeek found Webb again for Webbs second goal of the afternoon. Webb was almost able to add a third in the closing minutes but it stayed 2-0 for the hard-fought win.
Colby showed their depth in the game with 27 Mules seeing the pitch and giving valuable experience to the whole team. The win propelled the Mules to 5-9 on the year and snapped a four game losing streak.
The Mules will end their season on Tuesday when they host in-state rivals Bates for a highly anticipated matchup. That game will kick off at 3 pm on the Bill Alfond Field.
