Softball Tallies 13 Hits, Top Bantams in Game 2

Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Softball team hosted the Trinity Bantams for a double header Saturday, earning the split.  Trinity came out on top in game 1 by a score of 7-0, but the Mules bounced right back with 13 hits in game 2 to earn an 8-2 victory.  With the split, the Mules snap a 6-game losing streak to the Bantams and take another HUGE step in their escalation up the NESCAC ranks.

Forbes 2020-21Trinity didn't mind the Maine weather early on, collecting 14 hits in game 1 en route to the shutout.  Plating two runs in the 3rd, 4th, and 7th, the Bantams were led by Samantha Witmer and Cassidy Schiff with three hits apiece.  Hailey Rohall led off the 3rd inning with a double for the Mules, and Brenna Forbes (photo left) continued her stellar sophomore campaign with a single in the 7th, extending her hit streak to four games.

The Mules jumped out to an early lead in game 2 with two runs in the 1st inning, and put the game out of reach in the 5th with four more runs.  Sophomore Jackie Hill connected for three hits and a stolen base out of the leadoff spot to raise her season average to an astounding .583, and Forbes pushed her hit streak to five games, going 3-4 with two RBI and her first stolen base of the season.  The shortstop is now hitting .423 on the year. On the mound, sophomore Sam Ahlholm went the distance, scattering eight hits while allowing only two runs over seven innings, striking out six.

Colby is back in action Sunday when they head to Brunswick to take on the Polar Bears of Bowdoin College for a double header.  First pitch is slated for 1:00pm.
