Men's Lacrosse Wins on the Road Against Bates

Lewiston, Maine - The Mules were on the road again on Sunday, this time bringing home a 17-10 win against the Bobcats.  This was the first time since 2014 that the Mules beat the Bobcats, and to do it coming from behind was just the cherry on top.

In the first few minutes Colby would let up two goals, but these quick goals would not define the play for the Mules in the remainder of the game.  Both teams remained neck and neck throughout the first half, Colby trailing 6-7 at halftime.  Noah Froio opened up scoring for the Mules about half way through the first quarter.  The Mules success on attack came from quick ball movement around the outside and patience in looking for a good shot.  Colby defense started off slow in the first quarter, allowing in four goals, but more than made up for it as Bates was only able to get off 34 shots in the entire game.

BruThe second half starts strong for Mules, opening up for a number of shots and three unanswered goals.  Bates answered with two goals to tie the game at nine with a few minutes left in teh third quarter.  Froio opened up a 7-0 run on the Bobcats, taking control of the game, and outscoring Bates 11-3 in second half.  The Mules had an impressive day all around.  Coach Guy Van Arsdale said of the game, " I'm very pleased with the grit and effort of the whole team today. Our guys earned it. A great team win."  While it was an outstanding team win there were impressive showings from Jack Rickards scoring six goals, first years Rafa Bru (pictured left) and Noah Brooks having their first collegiate goals, and Jake Surette with two goals and two assists.  Bru also added to the momentum for the Mules winning 23 out of 31 face offs and leading the team with 12 ground balls.

The Mules will have their home opener next weekend, hosting Connecticut College on April 24th at 3:00pm.  If you are in the Colby testing program, you are welcome to enjoy the game in person remaining socially distanced.  If you are not in the testing program we ask that you stream the game from the Athletics website.
