Mules Come Back to Beat the Monks Late in the Game

Waterville, Maine - The Mules took on St. Joseph's College this evening and after making a steady comeback were able to beat the Monks 5-3.

Early on the Monks were able to score with little in return from the Mules.  To have a slow start after only recently being able to play opponents outside of Colby makes sense.  What's promising for the Mules is that they were able to come back from a three run deficit and hold the Monks to zero runs after the third inning.

McConnell 2020-21
#17 Patrick McConnell '24
Pitching certainly seemed to be a struggle today for the Mules, having five pitchers throughout the game they were unable to get into a groove.  The rest of the team's play was able to make up for that with three runs scored in the fifth inning to tie the game up. Cole Palmeri (9) scored the first run for the Mules off a bunt from Patrick McConnell (17).  Matthew Panker (19) was next to score for the Mules and the inning was finished off with a run from McConnell.  The sixth inning was scoreless but McConnell scored in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Andrew Russell (4).  The Mules finished the game with Cabot Maher (24) scoring off a wild pitch.

The Mules have a busy weekend to look forward to with three games at home against Thomas College.  The first will be Friday at 6:00pm and a double header on Saturday starting at 1:00pm.  Please follow COVID-19 guidelines and when in doubt stream the game from the athletics website.  If you are part of the testing program on campus please be sure to maintain social distancing while in attendance.
