Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Falls to St. Joseph's College

Waterville, Maine - Women's Basketball took on St. Joseph's Monks today as they start off their double-header weekend.

After the first quarter Colby trailed by 1 with a score of 16 to 15. Alisha Aube (33) had a standout drive for a key early layup helping Colby build offensive momentum. St. Joseph's tested Colby's defense and the Mules looked to combat the Monks' effective team offense going into the second quarter.

After the first half St. Joe's led 39-33 over the Mules after a dynamic first half. Mycala Carney (23) started out the scoring in the second quarter with a key fast break where she pulled after shaking two defenders and hit a three pointer. The fast play continued with St.J oe's making a late half run to acquire their 6 point lead but play in the first half was a back and forth affair. Carter McGloon (22) and Aube led the way scoring for Colby with nine and seven points, respectively. Aube also stood out on the boards for Colby with a team-leading four rebounds in the first half. St. Joseph's lead could mainly be attributed to their advantage in three point shooting, with Colby only having a shooting percentage of 33%.

Colby started off slow in the third quarter with St. Joseph's going on a 6 point run until Carney had a clutch three pointer 4 minutes into the quarter. Overall, St. Joseph's dominated the quarter thanks to strong three point shooting, extending their lead to 13 with a score of 59 to 46.

Colby, unfortunately, lost with a score of 81 to 63. St. Joseph's three point shooting was simply too dominant for Colby to overcome and they could not match their offensive pace. However, Colby put up a valiant effort continuing to score and hustle till the very end. Standout players for Colby include Carly Chistofori (3) with 6 assists, Aube with a team leading 17 points on 14 shooting attempts, and McGloon with 11 points. Defensively Christofori led the way with 2 steals and Carney and Aube both had a team leading 5 rebounds. Overall, Colby's low shooting percentage of 41.3 hampered their offensive firepower even though they were playing good team offense and St. Joseph's ended with a win.

The team will have another chance to dominate over St. Joseph's tomorrow when they travel to Standish, Maine to play at 2pm.
