Morris Remains Undefeated, #17 Mules Qualify for Nationals after Regional Championship

Franklin Park, Boston, MA — The Colby Mules raced to a second place finish at the NCAA DIII East Regional championships on Saturday. The Colby Men's Cross Country team, ranked 17th nationally, proved their ranking after beating conference rivals Tufts, Bates and Bowdoin in an exciting 8-kilometer race at Franklin Park.

The Regional Championships were held at Franklin Park, a historic cross country course just outside of downtown Boston. The weather was warm and sunny this day, unlike the weather on many days of the previous races the Mules competed in this season.

Continuing his undefeated streak, Tyler Morris seemingly jogged to a 37-second victory, running 25:00 and saving his energy for the National Championships next week. This season, Morris has won every single race he has competed in by over 30 seconds. As he moves forward to the National Championships, he will have his first taste of competition as he takes on the very best Division III cross country runners and competes for the national individual title.

Behind Morris was an army of 6 runners from MIT, who ultimately won the meet for their school with an admirable 23 points to Colby's 67.

Ewan Frick (SR) and Ben Mellor (JR) came in just short of the 26-minute mark, placing 11th and 12th with times of 26:07 and 26:10, respectively. Frick and Mellor led a chase pack of 9 runners. In this chase pack was the first year Keegan Gleason (19th, 26:19). Though Gleason is known throughout the Colby community as a class of 2025 co-president, he is also establishing himself within the D3 cross country community.

Behind Gleason was another first year, Gordon Doore (24th, 26:35). Subbing in as the Mules' alternate for first year James Boyle, Doore showed that he is very capable of running well in cross country. With a 1:57 in the 800 to his name, Doore has impressive range.

Six out of the seven Mules who raced this past weekend achieved All-Region honors.

The Mules ran well at the NCAA DIII East Regional Championships, earning an at-large bid to Nationals. The National Championships will be held next weekend in Louisville, KY. With an incredibly strong team, the Mules do not seem to be far from a team finish in the top-10. Morris is a contender for the national title, and both Frick and Mellor are contenders for All American finishes (top 35 individuals). Flying down to Louisville on Wednesday, the Mules are ready to compete.
