Box Score MIDDLEBURY, Vt.- The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team came up just short of tying the game in the third period of the NESCAC semifinal. #3 Amherst College scored an empty net goal to secure the victory, 3-1 over the Mules.
GAME NOTES: Colby came into the postseason with a victory 1-0, and a tie 2-2 OT, against the Mammoths in the regular season finale. The Mules end their season 15-6-5 overall (9-3-4 NESCAC).
HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MULES:
- Finding themselves down 1-0 after two periods, Moira Mullaney (photo inset) found the back of the net at 9:42 of the final frame. Sadie Kuhn and Izzy Tegtmeyer assisted on the play.
- Nina Prunster finished with 18 saves on the day. Her record moves to 9-4-1 overall, and secures a .949 save percentage and 1.20 goals allowed average.
- Tay Munson and McKinley Karpa led the team with five shots each.
HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MAMMOTHS:
- Emma Flynn gained the lead at 16:31 of the first period. Kaitlin Hoang with the assist.
- Hoang scored a goal herself at 13:30 of the third period. Anne Malloy assisted on the tying goal.
- Carley Daly secured the game at 18:57 of the final frame with the empty net goal.
- Caitlin Walker finished a stellar game in goal tallying 28 saves. Her overall record moves to 15-5-5.
KEY STATS:
- Senior Captain Mullaney finishes her Colby career with 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points (5 goals, 4 assists, 9 points this season).
- Wearing the A on her sweater, Izzy Tegtmeyer finishes her Colby career with 2 goals and 17 assists.
- Both teams' penalty kill finished strong, keeping both power play units 0 for 2.
