Colby Statement on Winter Athletics

Dear Colby Community Members and Friends of Athletics,

The presidents of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) have unanimously decided to extend the current suspension of intercollegiate conference competition to the winter 2020-21 season.  The full statement from NESCAC can be found on the conference website.

While this is not the year we expected, the innovation of our coaches and the commitment of our students have created an exciting environment for our athletes.  Our varsity and club programs have navigated safety protocols to gradually return to practice and continue their high level of athletic development.  Coaches have worked hard to create a competitive atmosphere within their teams, and several have developed very creative intrasquad events to simulate match play.   The relaxation of NCAA and NESCAC rules around traditional season practices have also allowed our spring teams to hit the playing surface for an unprecedented fall experience.

All of us in the Athletics Department share our students' disappointment with the suspension of NESCAC conference competition this winter.  We have learned during this fall season that we can continue to create an exciting and rewarding experience for our athletes without a conference schedule and will continue to look for ways to develop our athletes and programs to the highest level possible throughout the upcoming winter season.

As always, we appreciate your support of Colby athletics.

Go Mules,

Mike Wisecup
Vice President
Harold Alfond Director of Athletics
