Waterville, MAINE - The Colby Softball team enters its final week of it's five game Blue-Gray Series, a set of intrasquad games the program is holding this month as part of it's fall practice schedule. The contests allow for simulated game structure with a split squad makeup from within the roster, helping to drive competitive spirit and friendly gameplay.
Saturday's game, which resulted in a 7-6 victory for Gray, proved to be a back and forth battle from start to finish with teams combining for 12 hits. First-year Peyton Crowley got Blue on the board first with a three-run home run in the third inning, but two runs in thethird and five in the fifth put the Gray squad ahead for good. First-year
Abby Orso closed out he game on to preserve the victory for the Gray Team.
Both teams had strong offensive outings. Sophomore
Brenna Forbes started off the first rally for Blue, putting up a single before senior
Lolo Niemiec doubled ahead of Crowley's home run. On the opposing side, Gray was able to string a few hits together in the third inning to get two on the board. First-year
Olivia Menyo got the momentum started with a single, followed by a single from sophomore
Logan Luebbe, and both were plated on a double by Orso. First-year
Chloe Wilcox also got a nice hit in the 5th, starting a five-run rally that put the Gray team ahead and out of reach.
The final game in the series will be taking place this Wednesday under the lights, starting at 6:00pm.
