MEDFORD, Mass. - The Colby College softball team saw its season come to an end in the New England Small College Athletic Conference semifinals with a tight 6-4 setback to Tufts University on Sunday morning.
Colby (17-20) battled Tufts (27-13) scoreless through the first two innings of Sunday morning's semifinal matchup before senior
Emma Burnham busted the game open with a two-run double to left center in the top of the third inning.
The Jumbos responded quickly in the bottom of the frame to take a 6-2 lead via a sacrifice fly, a two-run single down the right field line and a three-run home run to left center.
The Mules cut their deficit to two (6-4) with an RBI groundout by sophomore
Caroline DeSimone and an RBI infield single by junior
Carissa Cassidy in the fifth inning.
Colby could not find an equalizer in the final inning.
Sophomore
Ashley Correll suffered the loss with five runs allowed off two hits in 2.1 innings and one strikeout. Freshman
Sophia Meade pitched 3.1 innings and allowed two hits and one run with four strikeouts.
Burnham went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs out of the leadoff spot for the Mules. Cassidy, freshman
Avery Lyman and senior
Erika MacLeod all recorded hits in the setback.
This concludes the 2025 season for the Mules.
