Men's soccer falls to Wesleyan on second day of road-trip

Box Score

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – It was sunny and hot, reaching well up into the 80's, for Colby's game against the Wesleyan Cardinals. The Mules had lost at the hands of Tufts the day before, while Wesleyan had just played Bowdon College to a 0-0, double-overtime tie.

The heat seemed oppressive, slowing down play to start the game. Both teams looked to be pacing themselves after putting in full efforts the previous day. The teams prodded each other's defenses but both stood strong in the first half stalemate. Colby goalie Matt Morin made three saves but the Mules' offense could not get a shot on goal and the game remained scoreless at half.

Play picked up in the second. Wesleyan came out swinging, getting two shots off in the first three minutes before Alec Haas put the Cardinals ahead with a goal at 48:13. The Cardinals continued to pressure throughout the half, managing 10 shots to Colby's three. The Mules struggled to maintain a consistent attack but were afforded a great opportunity with just two and a half minutes to play when Wesleyan defenseman Mike Gallo was given a yellow card just outside the box for a hard foul. Colby's free kick was blocked, though, and the Mules finished the half empty-handed, taking their second loss in as many days.

Now 4-3 on the season, Colby looks to bounce back against Hamilton. The team plays the Continentals in Clinton, N.Y. next Saturday, September 28th at 1:30 P.M. (EST).
