WATERVILLE, Maine -- Ethan Fabricant's first collegiate goal in his first game was a big one, breaking a 1-1 tie and helping the Colby College men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over local rival Thomas College on Wednesday.

 

The Mules (1-0 overall) retain the Elm City Bowl, awarded to the winning team each season in the Waterville rivalry. Colby has three straight victories over the Terriers (2-1).

 

Thomas had the start it wanted when Kyle Patterson scored just 6:14 into the contest. However, that would be the last goal of the game for the Terriers.

 

The Mules tied it at 1-1 with 1:29 left to halftime when a Colby player was pulled down in the penalty box on a scoring opportunity. Cam Clouse buried the penalty kick to the goalkeeper's right.

 

After a scrum in front of the Thomas goal, Colby defender Garrett Dickey (pictured) won a ball and found Fabricant in front for a point-blank shot.

 

Colby had a 15-5 shot advantage and a 5-3 margin in corner kicks. Mule goalkeeper Dan Carlson did not make a save, while Jonathan Dutka stopped seven shots.

 

The Mules play fifth-ranked and defending NESCAC champion Tufts University at home on Saturday at 3 p.m.
