WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College sophomore Elli Mapstone (Andover, Mass.), who sits in the stroke position for women's crew, was named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference Rowing All-Conference Team on Wednesday.
Mapstone made the All-NESCAC Second Team after helping the Mules finish the season ranked 11th in Division III. The Mules moved up from 14th after taking 11th at the National Intercollegiate Rowing Championships last Friday. Colby also placed 10th at the New England Championships.
The stroke position is the number eight spot in the boat and is closest to the stern and coxswain. Often the most competitive rower in the crew, the stroke works with the coxswain to establish the crew's rate (number of strokes per minute) and rhythm.
