Volleyball falls in tight matches

Paige Hanssen NASHUA, N.H. -- Paige Hanssen had 19 kills and Colby College teammate Karolina Serhan added 14 kills in a tough 3-2 loss to unbeaten Rivier University on Saturday in non-conference volleyball.

The Mules also dropped a 3-1 match to Regis College.
Hanssen also had 12 defensive digs and three aces against Rivier. Serhan had just four attack errors on her 14 kills and hit a fine .385 to go along with three aces. Elizabeth Noyes added nine kills and Alexa Busser finished with five. 
Molly Manuel had 27 assists and Mae Sefransky added 14 assists for Colby. Erin Maidman led the way with 19 digs in the 25-17, 18-25, 24-26, 25-13, 15-12 loss.
After dropping the first set to Rivier (11-0), the Mules regrouped to win two straight. Busser was part of three of the final four points to pull out the second set. Rivier led 24-22 in the third set only to watch Colby score the last four points, including back-to-back aces by Serhan on the final two points.
Rivier led 5-0 to start the fourth set and increased the lead to 14-3 at one point. The winners also took a 4-0 lead to begin the fifth set. With the score 12-12, Rivier scored the final three points of the match.
The Mules (0-8) fell 25-23, 25-14, 16-25, 25-23 to Regis. Serhan had seven kills, five blocks, and four aces. Busser added four blocks and five kills, while Maidman and Hanssen each had 10 digs. Manuel led in assists with 15.
