WATERVILLE, Maine — Colby College's Jackie Brokaw '18 (Darien, Conn.), a year after being honored as New England Small College Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year, was named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-American Second Team on Wednesday.
Brokaw is the first Colby defender since 2012 to earn All-American honors. Head coach Karen MacCrate Henning, who just finished her ninth season at Colby, has had 14 players earn 21 All-American honors since 2008.
“Jackie had a solid first-year season, but this year she found another gear. We had a great defense this year and Jackie really stepped up and played her position so well,” MacCrate Henning said. “She is so competitive and when she is challenged, she raises her game to another level. The tougher the opponent, the tougher she was to beat.”
Brokaw earned her third honor since the season ended. She was on the NESCAC First Team and made the IWLCA All-Region First Team. Brokaw has made the all-region team two years in a row.
Brokaw has 54 career ground balls, 39 caused turnovers, and 11 draw controls in her two seasons. She had 25 ground balls, 23 caused turnovers, and three draw controls in Colby's 12-4 season in 2016. Brokaw also was a key player in clears for the Mules.
