WATERVILLE, Maine -- Paige Hanssen finished with 17 kills and five service aces for the Colby College volleyball team in a 3-2 loss to Hamilton College in New England Small College Athletic Conference volleyball Saturday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
Hamilton fought off a match point to tie the fifth set at 15-15 on the way to a hard-fought 19-17 victory in the final set.
The Continentals are 10-10 overall and finish 3-7 in the NESCAC. The Mules end the season at 5-24 and 0-10 in the league.
Hamilton won by set scores of 25-12, 16-25, 19-25, 25-18, 19-17.
Both teams played at a high level in the fifth set and each had match points before Hamilton finally scored two in a row. The Continentals won a long rally to go up 16-15, but Elizabeth Noyes (pictured) had a winner for the Mules to tie the set. Hamilton's Giuliana Rankin hit a smash off a Colby blocker to make it 17-16. Paige Hanssen followed with a kill for the Mules to knot the set at 17-17. Hamilton had a long shot that hit the back line for the 18th point and Colby netted a return for the 19-17 win.
Rankin finished with 22 kills and had a .452 hitting percentage. Kyndal Burdin added 55 assists, 10 defensive digs, and four service aces.
Emily Moslener led in assists with 28 and Noyes added 16 digs for the Mules. Noyes also had 14 kills, while Alexa Busser had 10 kills and four blocks. Karolina Serhan added nine kills.
