AMHERST, Mass. -- The Colby College field hockey team scored two second-half goals, but ninth-ranked Amherst College scored three times in each half in a 6-0 NESCAC win Saturday at Gooding Field.
Colby falls to 5-7 overall and 2-6 in the league heading into Wednesday's 7 p.m. home game with University of Maine at Farmington. The Purple & White are 9-3 overall and 5-3 in the conference.
After falling behind 6-0, Anna Rudinski scored her third goal of the year at 49:24 off an assist from Becca Moore. McKayla Blanch, Colby's leading scorer with six goals and seven assists for 19 points, tallied at 53:11 for the final goal of the game.
Sara Culhane was the story of the game for Amherst. She had two goals and three assists, including a goal and two assists in the opening half. Purple & White teammate Mary Grace Cronin had three goals on four shots, while Elizabeth Turnbull had one goal and one assist.
Colby goalkeeper Riley Whitmyer stopped 11 shots in 61:42. Emily Buckman played 8:18 for the Mules and made three saves. Emily Horwitz played 62:23 in goal for Amherst and stopped six shots.
The Purple & White had a 25-10 shot advantage and a 10-4 margin in penalty corners. The Mules' Kat Restrepo (pictured) made a defensive save, her third of the season.
