Volleyball takes set in loss

Elizabeth Noyes BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Colby College's Paige Hanssen had 11 kills, seven defensive digs, and three blocks in a 3-1 loss at Bowdoin College on Friday night.

Elizabeth Noyes (pictured) had seven kills, six digs, and two service aces for the Mules, who play at Tufts University on Saturday at noon. Colby also takes on Gordon College at 2:30 p.m. at Tufts. Both matches will be broadcast at http://www.jumbocast.com/
 

Karolina Serhan added six kills, six blocks, and five digs for Colby (4-16 overall, 0-7 NESCAC) in the 25-13, 25-18, 23-25, 25-11 setback. Alexa Busser added four blocks, Emily Moslener had 16 assists and seven digs, and Molly Manuel had 10 assists.

Caroline Flaherty paced Bowdoin (10-5, 4-4 NESCAC) with 17 kills and eight digs. Sydney Salle added 13 kills and setter Quincy Leech had 43 assists and six kills.
 

The Mules were in the first set and only trailed 11-10 before the Polar Bears scored 14 of the next 18 points. Bowdoin controlled the second set by opening an 8-2 lead and led 21-9 at one point.

Colby trailed 10-6 in the third set before battling back for a 12-12 tie. With the Mules up 22-21, Noyes and Eliza Liebler had kills to make it 24-22. Serhan closed the set with an ace.
 

The Polar Bears, like the second set, went out fast and led 10-2 on the way to the fourth set victory.
