Matt Poulin joined the Colby Women’s Ice Hockey coaching staff to begin the 2026-27 academic year following a successful tenure at North Yarmouth Academy, where he most recently served as Director of Athletics and Head Girls Prep Hockey Coach.
During his time at NYA, Poulin helped build the program into a highly competitive girls’ prep hockey program, guiding the team to three consecutive Vaillancourt Conference championships and twice finishing inside the Top-20 of the NEPSAC rankings. His coaching background includes extensive work in player development at the prep, club, and youth levels, with a focus on preparing student-athletes for success at the collegiate level. Poulin has also worked with USA Hockey’s Girls Player Development program, including serving as an intern coach at the USA Hockey Girls 16/17 National Player Development Camp. His experience in athletic administration has complemented his coaching career, providing a strong background in program leadership, recruiting, student-athlete development, and athletics operations. His coaching philosophy centers on a player-first approach, individual development, and team culture.
A Maine native, Poulin played his high school hockey at Lewiston High School and was selected as a semifinalist for the Travis Roy Award, recognizing him as one of the top eight senior boys’ hockey players in the state of Maine in 2014. Poulin then played a year of ACHA Men’s Hockey before getting into coaching. Poulin is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Sports Management.
“I couldn’t be more excited to join the Colby Women’s Ice Hockey program and become part of the Colby community. The opportunity to work under Coach Tyng and learn from her leadership, while contributing to the continued success of the program, is something I’m incredibly grateful for. For me, coaching has always been about the players and the relationships you build along the way. I’m excited to invest in our student-athletes, help them grow both on and off the ice, and do everything I can to make their experience at Colby a special one.”
