Daniel Gallagher came to Colby College as the Special Teams Coordinator and Tight Ends and Running Backs Coach in the summer ahead of the 2024 season.
Prior to joining us on Mayflower Hill, Gallagher coached at Stonehill College in 2022 and 2023 working with the tight ends and assisting with special teams. He coached Noah Canty to All-Conference honors in 2023. Canty led all NEC Tight Ends in receptions and receiving yards per game. In the 2022 season, Stonehill averaged 31 points and ran for 208 yards per game, as well as led the conference in 3rd down and 4th down conversion percentage.
In 2021, Gallagher coached at Millikin University serving as the Defensive Backs coach before switching to Wide Receivers. He also served as the teams Video Coordinator. Gallagher coached second team All-American WR Colton Lockwood who averaged 100 yards per game and scored 10 TDs. Three Millikin WRs ranked top 10 in the conference for yards per game.
For the 2020 season, Gallagher coached at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology where they finished 4-1 in the shortened spring season. In the 2021 spring season he coached the linebackers before switching to wide receivers and helped coach All-HCAC receivers Jalien Hobbs (Second Team All-HCAC) and Adam Saliu (Second Team All-HCAC). Gallagher also ran the kickoff return unit where Hobbs ranked second in Division III in kickoff return average.
In 2019, Gallagher was an assistant coach at Washington and Jefferson College in Pennsylvania working with the defensive backs and assisting with special teams. He helped guide Joey Koroly to honorable mention PAC honors at defensive back while Koroly also made third team All-American as a return specialist. Gallagher also coordinated video and the strength and conditioning program in his time at Washington and Jefferson. The Presidents finished the season 8-3 with an ECAC bowl victory in the Asa S. Bushnell Bowl.
Gallagher served as the defensive backs coach at the University of Rochester in 2018 where he helped coach All-Liberty League player Adam Baghi and All-UAA player Robert Grant in the defensive backfield. UR was ranked first in the Liberty League in fewest passing yards allowed per game in 2018. UR also tied a single game school record with six interceptions. Gallagher was also a full-time teacher at Rochester Academy Charter School during his time in Rochester.
In 2017, Gallagher served a year on the Alfred University football staff coaching the wide receivers group while being heavily involved in coaching special teams and creating offensive game plans for a team that posted an 8-3 record and captured the ECAC James Lynah Bowl Championship.
Gallagher attended Alfred and was a member of the football program, including playing on the 2016 team which posted a 12-1 overall record and were Empire 8 champions. The Saxon squad was the first team in Empire 8 history to finish the regular season undefeated and ended up advancing to the NCAA quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Playoffs before falling to Mount Union.
The Fabius, New York native graduated from Alfred with a bachelor’s degree in English, while minoring in Education. He also obtained a master's degree in Sport Management from Indiana State University.
