Ashley Johnston joined the Colby Women's Ice Hockey coaching staff ahead of the 2024-2025 season.
Previously, Johnston was an assistant coach with the PHF’s Metropolitan Riveters from 2020-2021, responsible for coaching the defense and penalty kill. Prior to that, Johnston served as a volunteer assistant coach at Union College and founded her own hockey skills program (Johnston Hockey).
Johnston previously played in the NWHL, captaining the NY (Metropolitan) Riveters from 2015-2018 and won the Isobel Cup in her final season. She was also selected to the 2017 NWHL All Star game and won the league’s 2017 Denna Laing Award. Prior to playing professionally, Johnston played four years of Division I ice hockey at Union College. Her last season she was named co-captain of the team and won the school’s Sr. Sportsmanship Award. Additionally, for her work academically and within the committee, she was selected to the NCAA Student Athlete Innovation panel and nominated for the NCAA Hockey Humanitarian Award.
Johnston holds her BS and MS in engineering as well as her MBA.
