Katie played hockey, softball, and soccer at Taft School. She was a Founder's League All-Star her junior year in hockey. She was a Founder's League All-Star in soccer and softball her senior year. She captained Taft's hockey team her junior and senior year and was captain of soccer and softball as a senior. An honor roll student for seven semesters, Katie received the Marion Hole Makepeace Award for contributing the most to girls' athletics at Tafts. Katie has worked often at the family business -- McLaughlin's Seafood in the Bangor, Maine area.
AT COLBY
Katie is an Educational Studies major with a concentration in Human Development. She is a Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies minor. Katie is a Community Advisor, member of the Colby Leadership Academy, and member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee. She also volunteers with the Waterville Youth Soccer Association. In the summer of 2016, she worked as a teaching intern at Taft Summer School.
2017 softball season highlights: Katie had her best season while hitting .358 with 17 runs, five doubles, two triples, and 11 RBI. She also was tied for fifth in the NESCAC in stolen bases (10). Katie switched from third base to shortstop and had just five errors in 115 total chances. She won the Marjorie Bither Award for academic accomplishment, athletic ability, and leadership at the Colby Senior Awards Ceremony. Katie was on the NESCAC Spring All-Academic Team.
2016-17 ice hockey season highlights: McLaughlin, a co-captain, played 22 games for the Mules and led in goals (8) and points (13). She also had five assists. She finished her career with 27 goals and 34 assists for 61 points in 98 games. Katie had one game-winning goal and one power play score. She was named to the NESCAC All-Sportsmanship and Winter All-Academic Teams. She won the Marjorie Bither Award for academic accomplishment, athletic ability, and leadership at the Colby Senior Awards Ceremony.
2016 softball season highlights: McLaughlin played in 29 games for the Mules and led the team in runs (22), hits (31), triples (2), and home runs (3). She finished third on the team in RBI (11), and slugging percentage (.462), and added nine walks and four doubles while batting .298 with a .360 on-base percentage.
2015-16 ice hockey season highlights: McLaughlin played in all 25 games for the Mules, finishing the season third on the team with eight assists and scored a team-leading nine goals. She was named to the NESCAC Winter All-Academic Team.
2015 softball season highlights: Katie started 25 games for the Mules. She was fourth on the team in batting average (.271), on-base percentage (.338), and slugging percentage (.343). Katie was tied for first in runs scored (13). McLaughlin compiled a fielding percentage of .934 with 85 opportunities in the field at third base.
2014-15 ice hockey season highlights: McLaughlin was tied for 16th in the NESCAC in assists (12) and tied for 19th in scoring (19 points). She also was on the NESCAC All-Sportsmanship Team. Katie played in all 25 games for the Mules and finished the season tied for second on the team with seven goals. Katie also led all Mules in assists.
2014 softball season highlights: Katie appeared in all 26 games for the Mules in her first season. McLaughlin led the team in runs scored (12) and walks (11), and was second on the team in on-base percentage (.326). Katie had a strong season in the field, finishing with a .974 fielding percentage.
2013-14 ice hockey season highlights: Katie had a terrific first season with the Mules, leading the team in assists with nine. She also scored three goals and was tied for second in scoring with 12 points. McLaughlin had one game-winning goal and had five of her assists in conference play.
