Annie Kloppenberg

Associate Professor of Theater and Dance

“My own work as a dance artist and educator centers on embodied knowledge. It is important that student athletes at Colby understand their athletic pursuits as a part of their social and intellectual life at the college--not disconnected from it. Their participation on a team teaches student athletes commitment, leadership, accountability, risk, and compromise. They practice strategic thinking, bold action, curiosity, and compassion. They champion one another's work through successes and failures. This is the very kind of learning that is at the heart of a liberal arts education. Colby students can use their athletic commitments to deepen their academic work and their connection to the Colby community. As a faculty liaison, I help them reflect on their experiences. I'm proud to support these women on and off the pitch--to support their growth as athletes, students, and active members of the communities of the team, the college, and beyond.”
